Lorne Calvert announces a so called sweeping green plan for Saskatchewan. Lorne now not only promises a chicken in every pot, but he will be only to happy to LOAN YOU YOUR OWN MONEY (at a low interest rate to boot), so you can now buy a new stove to cook that chicken, a new refrigerator to store the left overs, a new clothes washer, a new television, and maybe even a new VCR player?!!
Well Hoop de freaking doo!
One should be excited by the prospect of 40 dollars being set aside for every man, woman and child in Saskatchewan to go out and buy a new energy efficient Ipod. One should be thrilled to be 'empowered by Lorne' to spend ten grand now to save 30 dollars month off our energy bill.
Only 8 years to get our money back in savings?!! Not so fast there Lorne!
Let's not forget that Lorne Calvert and John Nilson conspired with Panasonic, Dell, Best Buy and other major brands to create the SWEEP program (see: http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/006818.html).
The SWEEP program adds an environmental handling fee to 'recycle' your electronics right at the cash register the second you buy a new TV, computer, etc, etc, etc. Oh ho ho ho Lorne! You give with one hand, and you TAKE with the other. Give us 40 bucks to replace our electronics, and claw it back at 20 bucks a TV, 20 bucks on a computer, etc, etc, etc.
Let's sum up how your complete program would work. You will loan us our own money, at a low interest rate, to buy stuff we already own. You will tack on an environmental handling fee to recycle electronics at the cash register as we buy new gear, and that fee is going to be paid the very same people who made the stuff we already bought. Freaking brilliant! NOT!
Lorne, your green plan is mostly bull shit brown. Go ahead and promise us a subsidized iPod in every hand. I already have mine, so your attempt to bribe me with my own money is wasted upon me. I'm going to take a moment and recycle your wolf in sheep's clothing brochure with a brief bathroom break, thanks for the wipe!
